My First Attempt at Macrame

My attempt at macrame

I’ve wanted to do a macrame project for quite a while. I have a few friends that have done it and bought a bit of cord for it a while ago. So, here we go.

You can go about starting these kinds of projects in a number of ways. I’ve found some really great resources on YouTube (of course), but for this first go I decided to give a patter via Etsy a try. Side note that if you find a pattern with video links included that will also SUPER helpful.

Tools needed:
Macrame cord
Scissors
Wooden dowel or piece of wood to hang from
Macrame pattern – this was the one I used.
Patience

By following the directions from my download I would say that the whole project took 2-3 hours over the course of a weekend. I’ve gotta say that this was much more difficult than I’d originally thought. Practicing the knots mention ahead of time would have been a good idea. Not doing so I probably re-did sections a few times and didn’t have the confidence that I was going in the right direction.

I think this turned out alright all-in-all, but know that there is plenty of room for improvement. I’m my own worst critic. Onto the next project!

There are a bunch of places to purchase Macrame patters from via Etsy, all with seemingly different experience levels. Here are some of the favorites I found:
