In Search of an Entry Way Rug

Entry Way Rug

I’ve generally found that finding the perfect rung can be quite the process. Not only that, but rugs are expensive. We’ve generally lucked out in this department, finding rugs at thrift stores and ikea that fit the bill for a great price. But when you are trying to have it “jive” with the rest of your decor, sometimes you just won’t settle for what Ikea has to offer, especially on a budget.

I picked up this little rug (at iKea) a few months ago and had hoped it would “work”, but sadly it just hasn’t. It keeps getting flug around and bunched up and white wasn’t exactly the best choice in hindsight. And so began the search.

I’d seen a TON of ads for Ruggable, the rug that can be washed, but when it came down to it, I wasn’t ready to pay over $100 for a 3×5 rug. I’ll splurge more than I used to, but I’m still a girl looking for the best deal possible. Am I right? Don’t get me wrong, they have a large selection and I hope to try one out, but for now, I’m hoping to find something under $60 (in a perfect word) that works with the rest of our current flooring.

Speaking of current flooring, we have primarily wood floors in this area with a neutral, light beige carpet next to it. Directly next to it we have another fairly colorful rug, so while I’d love to have it “pop”, I also don’t want it to clash.

Travis LOVES color, which made this search rather difficult. I am much more on the neutral, geometric train. Thinking it would be a compromise I ordered a rug (#5), only to have Travis tell me it was “too boring” for him, so back to the drawing board. I ordered rug #4, but wasn’t impressed by that either. The color in person was rather dull. I guess maybe I’m “too picky”, but I knew the perfect solution would be out there.

Side note: Compromise has definitely been the most difficult part about buying a house. Our styles are so different and even thought color tends to give me anxiety, I do want to be considerate and need to remember how much he likes it. Can you guess which rugs are my favorites vs Travis’s?

The top contenders:

1 Gilchrist | 2 Bohemian Rug | 3 Dunseith | 4 Elson | 5 Hera | 6 Bria | 7 Penrose | 8 Millie Tribal

I was very torn with these and went back/forth for a while. The dirt factor ended up being a major player in this decision as we get a lot of sand, dirt, snow and dog hair throughout the year. Our current rug is white and gets visibly dirty frequently, so that took Bria (#6) out of the running (and it was honestly my favorite – don’t you hate when practicality comes into play).

While still struggling with the whole color/compromise factor, in the end hiding dog hair and dirt won out. It’s honestly a rug that I’ll more than likely replace in a year or two and for a price UNDER $30 (thank you overstock), which was almost $20 – $30 cheaper than many above, I just couldn’t resist.

And the winner is – #8 Maisie Vintage Boho Rug – from Overstock.com. Here she is in action…
